The next 24 or 72 hours on a timeline
Drag along the bar or use the arrow keys to change the hours; each line marks a midnight and the day it starts.
The next 24 hours
+8 h
Now+6 h+12 h+18 h+24 h
Now+24 h+48 h+72 h
The bar runs from the start to 24 hours ahead, with a mark at each midnight. The worked example, 8 hours after 9:00 AM, sits one third of the way along.
What time will it be in 8 hours?
Add 8 to the hour on the 24-hour clock; if the sum reaches 24, take off 24 and move to the next date. From 9:00 AM (09:00), 9 + 8 = 17, which is 5:00 PM. From 6:00 PM (18:00), 18 + 8 = 26, and 26 − 24 = 2, so the answer is 2:00 AM tomorrow.
Noon is where the 12-hour clock trips people up. 8 hours after 12:30 PM is 20:30, which is 8:30 PM, not 8:30 AM. For the opposite direction, the hours ago calculator subtracts from the same clock.
What time will it be in 30 minutes?
Add the minutes and carry every 60 into an hour. At 2:45 PM, 45 + 30 = 75 minutes, which is 1 hour 15 minutes, so 30 minutes from now is 3:15 PM. 20 minutes after 10:50 AM is 11:10 AM by the same carry, and 30 minutes after 11:45 PM is 12:15 AM on the next date.
The guide to adding hours and minutes shows the carry on longer sums. To total several durations, such as a week of shifts, rather than move a clock time, add up hours in a list.
Is 24 hours from now the same time tomorrow?
Yes, unless a daylight saving time (DST) change falls inside those 24 hours. Whole days keep the clock reading, so 72 hours from now is this same time 3 days ahead: a 72-hour deadline set at 10:00 AM Wednesday runs out at 10:00 AM Saturday. 12 hours from now keeps the number and swaps AM for PM, which makes 12 hours after noon midnight, 12:00 AM on the next date.
The calculator counts real elapsed hours, so a U.S. clock change inside the span moves the answer 1 hour on the clock. In 2026, the changes are on Sunday, March 8, 2026 (forward) and Sunday, November 1, 2026 (back):
24 hours after 3:15 PM on Saturday, March 7, 2026 is 4:15 PM, because the night skipped 2:00 to 3:00 AM.
24 hours after 3:15 PM on Saturday, October 31, 2026 is 2:15 PM, because the night ran 1:00 to 2:00 AM twice.
Hawaii and most of Arizona keep the same clock all year. The daylight saving time page lists five years of change dates. To measure the time between two times across a change, enter both dates in the duration calculator. For spans of weeks or months, the days from today calculator counts whole days on the calendar.
